What can make a horse lose all its front top teeth? Can it be a trauma from years ago if no sign has shown?

Can it be a trauma from years before? The horse had its teeth checked regulary and has never shown any signs of discomfort in its mouth before. Is it possible that this could happen? All the insisors on the top except one is missing

ususally if a horse looses his front teeth suddlenly it's from a trauma that is new not old. unless your horse has some sort of gum disease but then the other teeth would be falling out also. sounds like a kick to the mouth or he ran into something. find a vet that specializes in horse dentistry and have them take a look at your horse. good luck
Reply:No, in general it can't happen. Your horse has a serious problem. If your horse is over 15 years of age, it may be age related. Otherwise it is a lack of general nutrition. Get a new vet NOW.
Reply:Was this a sudden loss of teeth? Are you positive he didn't get out and get kicked in the mouth by another horse? There are many things that could cause this problem, and the best thing for you to do is have the Vet check his mouth and gums and determine if there are any diseases that caused his teeth loss. This is mighty strange.
Reply:if its the favorite and it dosn't win .
Reply:Depends on how old the horse is. Horses loose teeth when they are old. My horse has lost some molars, but not front teeth.

Cribbers, wood chewers can also loose their teeth, but again, usually when they are old.

I haven't heard any disease that would do that. At least off hand.

Could easily be trauma.
Reply:Sounds like the horse has had a cribbing habit, where they grab onto the door with their teeth and suck in. We have a horse at our farm that used to do that and he lost all his top teeth from doing it.
Reply:try the vet ,//////////////////////
