Can vets rarsp horses teeth.?

do vets do horses teeth aswell as medical things.

Can vets rarsp horses teeth.?
yes its called "float-ing"
Reply:They should do.
Reply:Yea they should do
Reply:Yes they can. My farrier also used to rasp my ponies teeth.
Reply:Yes, vets do. However, you might be better off asking your local vet for their recommended horse dentist.

Horse dentist will be better skilled for that job than most vets although they may have to work together if:

- the horse needs sedating

- the mouth presents other problems than teeth problems
Reply:yes, my vet does teeth!

you see, when you ask for something to be done to your horse eg. shave, wash, farrier, wormer etc. it should be done!

thats how i test my vet!!
Reply:Some do like the old type vets. Some don't because of the risk involved.
Reply:yes they should be able to.
Reply:most do but some dont. you will have to ask your vet and he will probably be able to float your horses teeth for you.
Reply:My vet has floated teeth before for me and also removed wolf teeth for me. Although he doesn't like too he will do it. Sometimes you may find yourself paying for the vet to do it then the regular horse dentist. Its better to have the horse dentist do it though, he will pay more attention to the mouth then your vet will for he does it every day and it is his profession.
Reply:Yes, they can. It's not pretty, but the horse does not suffer - it just feels weird to them. It's very easy to do, and any large animal vet should be able to do it.
Reply:Yes the vet does mine every year, although last summer we had a equine dentist call on the yard for one of the other horses that had a awful lot wrong with its teeth, and he did my horse at the same time.
Reply:Where I'm from, there aren't any horse dentists, the work is part of the veterinary field.
Reply:Most CAN float teeth, but they aren't really qualified to. They do not have very much schooling in dentistry. Would you want your MD to take care of your teeth? There arent a lot of horse dentist around (great field to get into) so most people rely on their vet.
Reply:Yes, most definatley. They may sedate the horse, probably will but can rasp. A true equine dentist is best. Electric rasps and specialize in this every day all day. I prefer the equine dentist.
Reply:yes but you are better off with a fully qualified dental technician as they are doing it every day and i feel are more experienced than the vet who does it once in a blue moon and tends not to invest in the correct equipment.
Reply:Yes, my vet does float teeth as well as the normal 'vet' stuff (ie. vaccines, sew-up cuts, treat colic, etc). However, here in California, we do have some vets that have decided to 'specialize' and become equine dentists, so they just do teeth and none of the other stuff.
Reply:they should do

not all vets do though so check

they are a lot chaper than pro equine dentists
Reply:yes. my vet rasped my horse's teeth!
Reply:some do but the best person to do it is a horse dentist after all its just like a human having a problem with there teeth where would you go first the doctors or the dentist? hope this helped.
Reply:Yes but it is better to get a proper horse dentist to come out becuse they are better trained than vets for doing teeth.
Reply:of course they can,and many do a sterling job although it is not the favourite job.the people that make a living from doing teeth apart from vets are just taking a load of routine work from the vets allready busy schedules.although if drugs are needed or the rasping goes wrong, the vet is usually the one to come out and clean up the mess.
Reply:Yes they do but they never do as good a job as a qualified equine dentist and cost a lot more too!!
Reply:My vet's practice has 3 vets who have qualified in equidentistry so i am very happy for them to rasp my horses teeth. The best thing to do is speak to your vet to see if they have the qualifications to do it as my mates vets don't and they made a right dogs ear of it causing her horse pain due to overgrown teeth as they didn't do it properly over many years, resulting in him not being able to chew his food properly and dropping alot, making him lose weight. She only found that out when she got a proper horse dentist in.
Reply:yea my vet can , depends if they r trained in that area
Reply:Yes, but its much better to get a proper hose dentist.

I use on there really good.
Reply:Yeah, i've seen vets rasping teeth
