Wolf teeth?

I think my horse has wolf teeth. What is the process for removing them and how long is a normal recovery time? I don't know their size yet - the vet comes out next week. My horse is four years old. Do they have to put him under? How long is the procedure and can it be done at my barn?

Wolf teeth?
Removing wolf teeth is usually done under sedation at your stables with local anaesthetic put into the surrounding gum. The procedure usually takes 15-20 minutes including giving sedation and putting the local in. General anaesthesia is not needed. Recovery is very quick for the mouth itself, however it is usually wise to refrain from riding/bitting for a few weeks to allow the pain to go completely - time depends on how deep the tooth is and how much gum trauma there is following removal. Your vet will advise you of this.
Reply:The prosses takes no time they recover in a few hours,And yes they can come and do it at your barn.
Reply:they don't put them under if they don't have to. he will be fine the same day.
Reply:It really does not take that long ours took less time than a regular teeth floating, and the sedation is the same. My horse seemed fine shortly after although I did give her a couple of days before I put a bit back in but I tend to spoil them. The vet sis ours in our front yard.
Reply:Wolf teeth can sometimes interfere with where the bit rests in the horses mouth,in which case they need to be removed. They have a shallow root and removal is a fairly easy process.
Reply:yes they can take them out at your barn, one of our 2 year olds just had hers come out and it cost about 130$. since you use a hackamore it would probably be alright to ride him but don't push and it DO NOT pull on his mouth. Depending to how he reacts her whole face could be sore. If you're feeling kind give him a few days of rest. I don't know who your horses dentist is so its hard to estimate the time, our horse had a cleaning as well so it's hard to say...
Reply:they will probably give him a cocktail of rompum/torpagesic/ace. they may take his head and put it in a sling and loop the ends over the top stall beam, to keep his head steady. they may make small incisions next to the teeth, to make it easier to pull out..especially if the teeth have not fully erupted through the gum. he will feel alot better, after it is done...because the bit wont bang around on those teeth anymore. i would give him a break for a few days before you ride with the hackmore. you may have to use a dose syringe with warm water and salt to rinse the mouth out with a few times a day. it will keep the mouth clean, and like with peole t will take away the swelling and soreness, and will really speed up the recovery...about a week to 10 days.
Reply:UMMM my horse was under but he was being gelded to he should be fine the next day yea it can be dun at ur barn
