this is what someone did to a realy big horse and it almost kicked me and i was wondering if i should turn him in.........

Most defiantly turn him in. That is abusive. For all you know it's not the first time he's done that to the mare either. It's a miracle she didn't kick him herself for what he did.





My mom when she was a kid watched their vet Punch (no not aggressively or being mean here) their mare to check on the foal inside her. Needless to say my mom.. being a YOUNG kid at the time decided she would do it too, so she walked Right under the horse ( tell you how old/tall she was?) and did the same thing, she got kicked in the forehead for it *lol*. There's a certain way to do that type of thing and a certain place to do it. However to just KICK an animal because she wouldn't show him her teeth? Sheesh, he doesn't deserve having animals. Those kinds of people make me want to wish I could cast a spell on them and turn them into their pets and allow their pets to abuse them the way they abused their pets. After all... it'd be fair right *smile*.





Anyway yes, please do report him to either the police or to the SPCA/ASPCA which ever happens to be where you are. They will most likely go out to evaluate the animal/animals in the man's care, question him about the allegations of his kicking the horse and if there's evidence to support your charge; arrest him and have him go before a judge to explain himself. Maybe even call you as a witness since well you witnessed the incident.

TO JAN H.: I believe what Casey was saying is that the person Kicked the horse and in the process she herself was almost kicked because the mare was kicked. If I read her question right she saw the person KICK the HORSE because she wouldn't allow him to look at her teeth. I'm willing to bet that Casey almost being kicked was due to the mares reaction to being kicked. She was kicking out at the thing that kicked her not deliberately kicking out at Casey. As I said in my post when my mom copied what a vet did to her mare she got kicked, thankfully the mare didn't kick super hard or my mom would have been really hurt badly. That's my interpretation of Casey's question to all of us.

Reply:Please turn the person in. Also I wouldn't mind if someone did this person the way becuase he deserves it. It would be funny and make me laugh knowing someone who mistreats animals got hurt back and showed how it feels to be abused.
Reply:That is definitely animal abuse. And really what does this person do to his animals when you aren't around? I would definitely report this Butt-head, for the horse's and her offsprings sake.
Reply:That is horrible! Why would someone do that? The poor thing is pregnant and harm could have be injured to the little one. To me that is animal cruelty. What is your relationship with this person? If you think the animal will continue to be in harms way than yes definitely seek help.
Reply:That is absolutely insane what the person did...kicking ANY animal, especially if she is pregnant. That moron shouldn't have any animals at all. It's up to your conscience if you report him or not. Unfortunately, reporting him probably won't do much good unless it can be proved that he is seriously abusing the animal. Ever watch "Animal Police" on the Animal Planet channel? It is absolutely mind boggling what people do to animals and what little is and can be done about it. Good luck in your decision.

Reply:Would *I* do it - no. But when it almost kicks you that is the way to get the horse's attention. It was a pregnant mare? Not the best idea there - but from what you say she wasn't punished for not showing teeth but for kicking at you...that is a serious offense. Another boss horse would kick a WHOLE lot harder than we humans ever could That is action - the way horses communicate. Wannabe tough buy kicks at a boss the boss horse drills him HARD with teeth and kicks.


Do not turn someone in for that - you should be thankful. A horse patted on the nose and rewarded for kicking at people ends up dominant and dangerous. Be thankful someone will stand up and discipline her in your best interest.


That said, the horse learned nothing about allowing her mouth to be handled with that. Timing is crucial. But from a standpoint of communicating like horses - yes returning a kick (or hit) *is* the way horses communicate. Watch them in a herd sometime. This does NOT excuse someone beating a horse into a panic. One hit will not damage a horse's psyche forever.


Remember - the first one is discipline the second revenge. In other words - one slap does not mean beating repeatedly.

I train horses I kik them all the time but I always have a good reason. YOu have to keep in mind that horses are powerfull aninmals and most likly there was a good reason for what the person did. YOu always have to remimber that in training there should always be a reward BUT have the stick avalible.

Reply:Actually, since a horse is considered livestock, their care is monitored a whole lot less than other domesticated animals, varying from state to state. I'd check what laws exist in your state, but I doubt you'd be able to turn the person in. This was the wrong reason to kick a horse and in the wrong place, but not all hits on a horse are abuse. Hitting the horse out of anger or for the fun of it is abuse, but if the horse bites you, for example, the lead horse would bite back, so you almost have to for your horse to still respect you. And, as mentioned earlier, there's not much the average human can do to hurt a horse with their bare hands (barring going for sensitive areas, like the eyes or genitals). Keep an eye on this person in the future for more instances of lashing out in anger, but remember that it's probably not considered a crime. Of course, if this is your horse, then, if I were you, I'd beat the living snot out of this person for daring to hit my horse. It's what the herd leader would do.

Reply:I wouldnt turn them in. It is there horse, and if the horse was misbehaving it should be punished. Expecially if it almost kicks you. A horse is so big, they dont fell the kick as much as people think they would.

If it was for not showing the teeth that's an overrated reaction, but if it was for kicking at you then it's well deserved. A horse that kicks is very very dangerous.





The problem with animal abuse calls is that often the viewer doesnt not understand exactly what they are seeing. Before you turn anyone in you should be very sure what the exact situation is: what the horse was doing and why the owner reacted as they did to judge whether or not the punishment of the animal can truly be considered abuse.





Should you decide the action is animal abuse, contact your local humane society. They will investigate it and if they deem necassary can and will take the abused animal away from the owners.
Reply:It is fine if it was in the stomach. Kicking it in the leg could cause leg problems. Don't turn him in.
