Horse not taking the bit?

In the summer my mom and I go horseback riding. One horse takes the bit right out of your hand, the other horse it takes us a good half a hour to get her to take the bit. The owner of the horse has had her teeth check and nothing is wrong with them. We have try with apples, carrots, and oats and that doesn't do the trick. I have also try with the two fingers by the end of the mouth and that doesn't work either. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to get the bit in this horse's mouth?

Try putting something sweet on the bit or in your hand be gentle don't jam the bit in her mouth that only makes them harder to bit. Put your over her head and hold the bit at her mouth and gentley press the bars of her mouth to see if she'll take the bit but sugar always has worked. Good luck
Reply:thanks for the vote .Hope i was helpful.Good luck Report It

Reply:Just be forceful
Reply:cover his nose he will oven his mouth
Reply:If you cover her nose it could be a little while before she opens up to take a breath. There could be other problems that are not from her teeth, horses are smart, she could associate having to put on a bridal with having a rider on her back the extra weight might be painful. If that is not the problem then you could also try a less severe bit, it could be that the bit you use is too hard on her mouth. They even make new flavered bits that taste good to the horse. GOOD LUCK!!
Reply:try molasses on the bit. It is messy, but tasty to the horse and should get her to lower her head. Also try loosening the bridle to make it easier to get over the horse's ears, then tighten once the bit is in the horse's mouth.
Reply:I have used to ways:

Put your finger in her mouth between the sets of teeth where there is just gum while your trying to put the bit in. Lol its not as crazy as it sounds and it tends to work for me.

Or

You can train them with outs or grain. Put the food in the hand that has the bit and when they open their mouth for the food, put the bit in.

Just make sure when your putting the bit in the bit is right at the break of their teeth.

Good Luck, i know how you feel and some times they are just stubborn dumbys
Reply:there is a part of the mouth with no teeth if you jam your thumb in that part and push down oh his tung he should open his mouth
Reply:What type of bit are you using? Is this some ripping mouth bit? Also if its a copper mouth piece, some horses just hate them.

You need to start over with this horse for bitting purposes and take her to ground 0.

Start with your fingers dipped in mollasses and rub all over her gums until she readily opens her mouth. This takes repitition and won't be an overnight thing.

Move from there to a snaffle dipped in mollasses and make sure you aren't banging her teeth when you insert the bit. Do this for a longgggg time until she is receptive to the bit. Use lots of rewards.

Finally move up to the bit you are using on her.
Reply:You just have to be forceful, take control of the horse dont let him run you around. Also you might want to try a less harsh bit. Pinch his nose until he opens and shove it in there! You might have to tie his tounge too, I have only had to do that on one horse because he kept throwing his tounge over the bit and I would have to re-do it a million times.
