Wolf teeth in horses?

I have a 4 year old gelding, had him 6 weeks. I was just wondering, at what age do the wolf teeth come through? How will I know which ones they are (at the back of the mouth???)

And do they need removing by the dentist?

Serious answers only plese....thank you for your help!

Wolf teeth in horses?
Wolf teeth generally are out by age 2 and yes they need to be removed by your vet or an equine dentist (vets that specialize in teeth lol) The wolf teethg are eseentially a bundle of nerves and everytime the bit hits it it causes a bit of pain , thus interfering with performance. As soon as my horses hit 2 I start checking for the wolf teeth and just as soon as I see they have come out I call the vet and her comes sedates the horse and pulls them. My 1st foal I rasied and traine don my own I kept her wolf teeth! lol It's like keeping your kids baby teeth! They are located towards the back of the mouth right infront od the back molars

Reply:First poster is right on. Just one more thing: a lot of time when people get colts gelded, they have the vet remove the wolf teeth at the same time, so there is a possibility yours have already been done.
Reply:wolf teeth come through in the area where the bit normally sits. The often do require removal but it depends on the horse. The best thing to do would be to havean equine dental person come check the horse over as that way you know it's happy in it's mouthand not in pain.
Reply:The wolf teeth are behind the k9s.It would be a good idea to get them removed.
