My horse bites why?

King (horse) is 16 years old. I have goats in the stall next to him. When they come in to eat he constantly reaches over the stall and bites them if he can. Yesterday, he bite me in the back when I leaning over to pet a baby goat. I built his gate higher so he can't get to the goats but it was extremely painful when he bite me. Why is he doing this?? He just started showing his teeth alot also.

My horse bites why?
you should spend more time with him, maybe take him to the vet, see if he has problems. or maybe he has a pain somewhere and he`s trying to draw your attention.
Reply:every animal is different, sorta like people.
Reply:if your horse bites you accident or not.... they are going to get smacked.... people have been seriously hurt because of this..... why he is doing it there is no telling..... but do not let him bite you..... like you said very painful.... if he thinks he can get away w/ it, it will get worse.... stop this before it gets serious

maybe try moving him a couple stalls down from the goat.....
Reply:When it comes to feeding time, even the most placid animal can become very territorial and possesive horses are no exception. When the goats come in for food try giving your horse something to forrage in his manger too, but do make sure the manger is on the opposite side to the goats.

Otherwise either take the horse out until the goats have finished or feed the goats somewhere else.

Kind Regards

Vaughan
