I just got a new horse.... and she is fine when you put the bit in her mouth but when you pull it out she throws her head back and even sometimes rears. We got her teeth done right when we got her to see if that was the problem... but it's not, she still does the same thing. We even got her a rubber bit to see if it was the metal bothering her teeth, but she still throws back her head. Any suggestions???
My horse is bti shy???? Any suggestions??
I sounds like in the past she has had the bit hit her teeth several times while someone was removing the bridle. You need to teach her to drop her head when you're ready to remove the bridle. Teach her to use the Que of touching her poll with light pressure. What you need to do is with a halter on her put light pressure on her poll with you thumb on one side of her bridlepath and your index finger on the opposite side. When she lowers her head even the tiniest bit, stop the pressure and reward her. If she does not lower her head increase the pressure slightly until she does. She'll get the point that when you touch there to drop her head. Always have her lower her head before you take the bridle off. This should help you out.
Reply:She could just be shy because she is nervus. You would be nervus too if you moved to a totaly new area with new horses. feed her alot of treats and groom her alot and also try bonding with her spend quality time together to tell her she is home and there is nothing to be nervus about. then when she is relaxed try to put the bit in.
Reply:"Gentlehands" is right on target %26amp; just be patient, she will come around.
Reply:I do agree with all of the others, but if things dont start looking up then i would try a hackamore or a bitless bridle. You could even try using one between now and when you know she is settled. then go back to the bit. Good luck...
