What do you think about this horse?

I have to send my horse back to his first owner because he is being aggressive and charging people in the pasture. And when i ride him, he tosses his head around, has a fit, and wont listen to my aids. He also trys to bite me and shows his teeth every time i go and greet him in his stall. I dont know whats going on, and i dont want me or my trainers or anyone in the stable getting hurt, so i am going to send him back to the farm he was born and feels comfortable in. : )

Now I am looking for a new horse, and it will be my first actual horse (as you see i was leasing the top one) I REALLY am in love with this horse

theres a video. at the upper right hand corner in that white box, it says "watch a video" Please click that!!

tell me what you think honestly. Please just dont answer "hes cute!" for two points! thanks to you all in advance! you guys are the best!

What do you think about this horse?
If you really love the horse, that helps quite a bit. If you are going to show the horse hunter/jumper and want to win with less effort, I think you can buy a better horse for the money. But, that not always makes you happier. I see nothing going on with the video-- but you need to make sure he passes vet checks, your riding, and your personalities.
Reply:i LOVE THE HORSE.It looks clean and healthy.remember,Pick a horse for its personality, not its breed.
Reply:Well, I don't see any red flags or anything, if YOU really like him then go see him (I'm asuming that you haven't yet...?). But don't just jump at the first horse you see (I know I have a tendency to do that :o) . Overall I think he has potential.

Good luck!
Reply:He seems perfect! He looks very healthy. His legs are long, he's fit, and he holds his head up high! He seems like he would make a good dressage and or jumper!
Reply:Instead of getting rid of the horse you have, why don't you try working with him on the ground before trying to ride him. Try lunging him, lunge lunge lunge. Once he has respect for you then you can try to ride him. Why would you want to ride a horse that has no respect for you on the ground? Its no wonder he has none for you whilst you ride.
Reply:That horse is beautiful. And he looks good to ride. But you never know, so give the owner a call and see if you can come down. Always bring a trusted horseman with you (trainer, expericence friend etc.). Go back more then once and tack him up your self. Ask for all paperwork on the horse and if possiable put him on a trial, you never know what they are like when you bring them home, as you well know.

Good luck and happy horse hunting :]
Reply:omg i love her!!!!!

she would be perfect for riding and by the pictures she is used to different types of saddles and i think she will be perfect for you!!!!!!!

Reply:it's very pretty
Reply:He is beautiful

he has a lovely jump and looks very calm but its hard to tell what he's REALLY like from a video and 3 pictures....

he may not be a good hack for example or may have a tendency to kick. i think that its a very good idea to go and see him

good luck in finding the horse of your dreams

Reply:When I was a kid my dad bought me a horse similar to the leased horse you describe....he sure had my number!!!. An old cowboy who ran the farm set him straight in one session and I never had another problem with him....

as far as the new horse, I would suggest you take the horse on a 10 day trial basis before you decide. It is a common practice here. 10 k is alot of money, and you could really find a well trained "push button:" type horse for that kind of money. If they wont allow you to try the horse out several times or take him on trial...move on to the next one. Rememebr this is the horse you will have for years to come. Dont be in a big hurry and dont let anyone rush you into making a decision. The horse is paid for in full at the time of purchase (make sure you get him vetted to make sure their are no ugly surprises waiting for you...it is well worth the money). A sales agreement is made up that stipulates if the horse should not be appropriate FOR ANY REASON, he can be returned within 10 days for a full refund of your money. 10 days should give you enough time to see if the two of you click or not. I did notice a few things about the video....why is the tie down (martingale so tight?)...definatley try him several times without it. It looks like he is in a "dressage frame" and he does move very nicely, but if you look at his back...he really does not have enough musceling their. So really he is just bowing his neck and moving forward...his back is not in play at all. At this point (based on his lack of musceling and age) he should be in a training level frame. If you do take him for dressage, loose the tie down and loose the bowed neck...at this point it is too soon to be forcing him into a fake frame and he should be encouraged to go forward with his neck more lower and stretched...and as he gains balance and strength you can ask for more engagement of the back and hocks. Take your time with him and enjoy. ps. he is really cute:)
Reply:In all honesty the price is high for an unproven prospect. The video doesn't show any of the horses abilities. He is young and still needs a lot of training. He also doesn't use his legs well when jumping...sure they are just small gymnastic jumps but he is just running through them. With that being said beauty is not everything. He is a nice looking horse but, for the money you could do better.
Reply:beautiful horse very nice. go and see him ride him walk trot canter jump. hack him out in traffic if possible. try him in all situations just so you can test how he reacts to everything. this way you no how he reacts. try go more than once just to make sure how he behaves as it is alot of money dont want any probs. good luck and if you like him go for it he is beautiful.
Reply:Don't fall in love with the first horse you see, especially one on the internet. I don't think it would hurt to go and visit him, but I think you should take your trainer with you to make sure the horse is a good fit for you. I would actually show your trainer the add first, and has him or her what s/he thinks of the horse before you fall in love with it.

How experienced of a rider are you? This horse doesn't look too complicated to ride, but he does look a little forward. He also seems a pretty green. If you aren't too experienced, you may have trouble with a green, forward horse.

This horse looks healthy, but again, dont fall in love with him before you get a vet to look at him. His confirmation is decent, but I'm not crazy about those long pasterns. In the movie he trots in a nice frame. But the jumps aren't high enough for me to critique is jumping style (he is just stepping over them).
Reply:He looks like a very nice horse, he has great movement and doesnt look like he has any problems!Hes really beautiful. Good luck going to ride/buy him! :)
Reply:He's gorgous. He is well built and you're getting your moneys worth. I couldn't watch the movies because it wouldn't download, but he's built for jumping! The only thing is he may be too spirited.
Reply:Ok remember he might not be the one so dont get your hopes up too high and fall head over heels in love with this horse. The reason is because I fell in love with this horse and he was a sweet heart on ground but in the saddle he was a complete brat. I had to sell him becasue he would rear and everytone was affraid that at some point he would flip back on me. So try him out first and if hes everything you hoped for get a vet check and if hes sound you can ask for a 2 month trial if your still not sure on wether to get the horse or not. To me he looks great! Hes so adorable. Oh and when you go and try him out make sure to ask a lot of questions. The more the better! Good Luck.
Reply:I hate when somebody has a "Prospect" advertised for that type of price. For $10,000 you should be able to get something finished for what you want, or you can find something way cheaper at the same level of training. In my honest opinion, with the way the horse market is, you can find better and cheaper. Keep looking. He is cute though. Maybe check out some appendix QH also. There are sooo many horses out there for sale.
Reply:He looks clean and sound. What I would do is contact the owner and ask any questions that you have about him. I would also tell the owner your experience with the horse that you have to send back. See how much detail the owner puts into their answers. Then, I would go and try him out. Be realisitic with the level of riding you are at as well. Don't get an advanced horse when you are a beginner because it will never work. Good luck with everything and hope this helps!
Reply:He is a very flashy horse I must say, he looks very willing, and healthy. I don't think I would pay $10,000 for an unregistered horse with little past show experience. Maybe more around $5,000. Remember not to instantly buy the first horse you come across, its best to try out a good variety of different horses before you make you decision, and if you don't like any of them EXTREMELY much, then its best to wait and keep looking. I've made this mistake a few to many times, it always ends up with a herd of not so great horses.

(I can't say much for that rider though, she's pretty over jumps, but has a few issues with her position, I cringed when I first saw her trotting him...ugh.)
Reply:He is beautiful He might be the right horse for you
Reply:I have bought a lot of horses for clients. I'm talking hundreds. You have fallen in love with this horse because it is pretty but you havent LOOKED at what the vendor is offering. I would say the price is ridiculously high for a horse that is straight in the hind leg. Barely trained and by a fairly novice rider. It is quiet and willing but the rider never shows it jumping off the right rein and the jumps are pathetically small. If she had any confidence in the horses ability she would have shown it over a varied course of much larger jumps showing turns and spreads. This is frankly a pet horse and needs a truckload of work to be worth that price. You can do better...for instance, we recently bought a winning coloured gelding who is trained to medium dressage. (Half pass, flying change and extentions all established) He also will jump a 1 metre track clear and careful. He cost only 2,000 more than what you want to buy the chestnut for! Go and look for real trained competition horses, there are dozens out there.

Sorry to be a killjoy, but I have spent my life trying to do my best to help people who have bought the first horse they fell in love with and they spend years trying to make something of them. I have read several of your Q's and A's and you seem to be keen and enthusiastic and you have just had one disappointing relationship with an unsuitable horse. Look for the best you can get wth the best training you can get, and then get the best instruction you can get!

Best of luck in your search!
Reply:STUNNING HORSE go 4 it ! look like its got a well made body and quit a star
Reply:i would try join up with ur current horse...its when u let them of of a lead and push them away from u until they turn their inner ear towards u and put their head down and like their lips and make chewing motions...but it thas to be done a a canter

but that other horse is very good too...u might hav some compition if u decide to buy him! jkjk
Reply:Neat looking horse, nice mover, and a very kind eye.

To the naysayers and know it alls....just how much is that disposition worth ....? In a nasty horse, zip. In a kind one, a million.

Are the sellers firm on the price of $10,000?....make a cash offer of what you think is a fair price....wheel and deal a little. You might get what you want for a less. Many in the horse business are willing to accept an offer. However, don't low ball them...that's an insult.
Reply:I think that you should go check this horse out before you decide. But I think that he is very pretty.
Reply:he looks good

you should definetley call the owners to see if you can go ride him some time
Reply:Nice horse! But who is that sitting UNDER the horse?? Joke..smile! Merry Xmas! lol
