Why is a tooth rasp for a horse called a "float"?

because it "floats" over the horses teeth, and takes out the points. To find out if ur horse is needy of a dentist, all u have to do is, put ur fingers up along the inside of his mouth, between the cheek and gums, along the back, if u feel bumps , or ridges or the back teeth, feel pointed. his mouth needs some attention. hope this helps.

Because the rasp "floats" over the teeth and shaves them down. Once this is done, the teeth float together like they should.

I don't know, that just sounds right to me.
